In January 1999, Andrew and Emsie Selley (who were then on Eldership at The Storehouse Church in Port Elizabeth) were sent out to plant a church in Table View. The church began with four people in a lounge, and quickly grew as God added to our number. By 2004, over 300 people were committed whole-heartedly to what God was doing through Joshua Generation. God then reminded Andrew of His promises from several years earlier: that He had called Joshua Generation Church to reach not just the suburb of Table View, but the entire city of Cape Town. God also provided the strategy to do just this: to become a multi-site church with one church meeting across the city in multiple locations. The first congregation was planted out in Durbanville and soon after this became the first of many congregations that would spread across the city and beyond.
Many prophetic words over the years have referred to Joshua Generation as a blueprint church: a church built according to God's original design. This church would be used by God to highlight His original intention for the church: a vehicle that would reveal His manifold glory and wisdom.
Over the past several years an influence has spread beyond Cape Town as churches from across South Africa have committed themselves to joining us in the modelling of this blueprint across the world.
Part of this vision is “to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up... speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From Him, the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work” as we see in Ephesians 4:12-16.
