In January 1999, Andrew and Emma Selley (who were on Eldership at The Storehouse Church in Port Elizabeth) were sent out to plant a church in Table View. This church plant, Joshua Generation Church, began with four people in a lounge and quickly grew as God added to their number. By 2004, over 300 people were whole-heartedly committed to what God was doing through Joshgen. Then God reminded Andrew of His promise He had made several years earlier; that He had called Joshgen to reach not just the suburb of Table View, but the entire city of Cape Town. He provided the strategy to accomplish this – by becoming a multi-site church – with one church, meeting across the city, in multiple locations. The first congregation, planted out to Durbanville, would become the first of many congregations that would spread out across the city and beyond.
Many prophetic words over the years have referred to Joshgen as a ‘blueprint church’ (a church built according to God's original design) and that it would be used by God to highlight His original intention for the church universal; which is to be a vehicle that would reveal His manifold glory and wisdom.
The past few years has seen Joshgen’s influence spread into and beyond Cape Town, as churches from across South Africa have joined Joshgen in modelling this blueprint across the world.
Part of this vision is, “… to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up... speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From Him, the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” Ephesians 4:12-16
